Charleston South Carolina real estate is among the most desirable in the country and nowhere in the area is that more true than in the Historic District of Downtown Charleston. Neighborhoods including South of Broad, The French Quarter, Harleston Village, Ansonborough and others offer a diversity of housing options in a historic setting not found in many cities in the country.
Charleston South Carolina is one of the most beautiful and historic cities in the United States. Majestically situated on a peninsula surrounded by rivers and the windswept harbor, Charleston is a treasure of antebellum houses, historic churches, cobblestone streets and hidden gardens. Charleston’s wealthy planters and merchant seamen of the 18th and 19th century built thousands of beautiful mansions which have been carefully restored and preserved and represent some of the most desirable real estate today.

Picture old world charm and modern living intertwined like in very few places in the country. The High Battery, views of Fort Sumter in the Charleston Harbor, Church towers and bells ringing, piazzas, courtyards, live oaks dripping with Spanish moss, colorful foliage including azaleas, hydrangeas, magnolia and camellias, horse drawn carriages, sweetgrass baskets, children playing on joggling boards, nearby beaches, world class golf courses, sea islands along the Intracoastal Waterway, the longest cable stayed bridge in North America, fine dining, world class shopping on famed King Street, festivals, culture, the visual and performing arts, symphony, ballet and theatre.
While best known for the
Charleston Single
, many examples of Colonial, Federal, Georgian, Greek Revival, Italianate and other architectural styles are represented in Historic Charleston. There is a variety of luxury real estate options including larger homes, smaller carriage houses, larger properties subdivided into condominiums and contemporary condos, many with water views. Near the Medical Center and the College of Charleston and along Upper King Street, there is significant gentrification taking place with lots of new retail and restaurants and major rehabbing of older homes with small pockets of new urban construction in the area. Just above the Crosstown, you’ll find a similar story taking place in Hampton Park and Wagener Terrace.
Charleston is well known for outstanding dining and just a few of my personal favorites include The Peninsula Grill and Magnolia's at the high end, SNOB is my favorite downtown restaurant for lunch and make sure to try the Hominy Grill for breakfast or lunch.
