Goose Creek is the largest city in Berkeley County and is poised to grow much larger. Many who work at SPAWAR at the Charleston Naval Weapons Station or the Naval Nuclear Power Training facility choose to live in nearby Goose Creek. But that isn’t all that Goose Creek has working in its favor. Google recently announced plans for a new data center facility that will bring hundred of high tech jobs to a 520 acre campus currently under construction in the area.

There is an abundance of developable land and the Berkeley County Government has been very pro development especially when it is well planned development. Located in the triangle between Summerville, Moncks Corner and North Charleston, Goose Creek and Berkeley County is planning to grow significantly with over 100,000 new residents expected to move to the area within the next 10 years.

Where will all these new residents live? Goose Creek has some very established neighborhoods including Crowfield Plantation. But on the horizon is much more. Just getting started is Cane Bay Plantation featuring homes by Centex and FirstCoast Homes and the first Del Webb active adult community in the Charleston area (although I think of Cane Bay as part of Goose Creek, it actually has a Summerville mailing address). A new high school is being constructed on the site. Across Highway 176 will be The Parks of Berkeley, an ambitious new development by Crescent Communities, the well regarded development unit of Charlotte North Carolina’s Duke Energy.

There is also a lot of development on the US 52 corridor towards Moncks Corner including Foxbank Plantation featuring homes from several different builders. 

But the most talked about development in Goose Creek is Carnes, a new mixed use development by the Daniel Island Company, which acquired a 2300 acre former timber tract at the intersection of Highways 17A and 176 with plans to develop a new downtown for the City of Goose Creek which will have a similar look and feel as Daniel Island. Plans are for a “smart growth” community responsibly combining commercial and residential development with an extensive use of greenways and lakes to enhance the natural beauty of the area.
